Equilibrium Fitness for Women is proud to offer the only group prenatal training program on the Central Coast. Group Bump is a weekly 60 minute group training that brings together expectant mothers in a safe and comfortable environment. Group Bump evolves weekly with your progressing pregnancy by focusing on strengthening, prenatal yoga, resistance toning, core, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. With exercises designed specifically to prepare you for each trimester, labor and birth, and postpartum, you will reap the invaluable benefits of prenatal fitness in a group setting. Each week you will receive “homework” to keep you on track and motivated throughout your entire pregnancy.
With the okay from you doctor, Group Bump is appropriate for all trimesters and fitness levels.
Equilibrium Fitness for Women offers training programs that are tailored specifically for pre-conception health. This is the time to get in the best shape of your life to help your body get prepared for its biggest physical challenge yet: pregnancy. A mother’s health has a direct correlation with her baby’s health, so the earlier you start, the better. Working with a Prenatal/Postpartum Exercise Specialist, you will undergo exercises that will maximize your fertility and create the healthiest environment possible for future fetal development. With professional guidance, you will undergo a program that is safe and effective, designed to prepare your body for a healthy and fit pregnancy.
We offer specific personalized private and small group postpartum training that is tailored toward each individual’s postpartum recovery. This includes, but is not limited to, cesarian recovery, diastasis recti, pelvic floor weakness, and lumbo-pelvic hip relaxin imbalance and/or instability. Sessions can be done with or without baby. In Mommy and Me training, you and your little workout buddy will work with a postpartum exercise specialist in our safe, clean, and relaxed all-women’s facility. Exercises will incorporate your baby and promote bonding while challenging your entire body. Get your body back while keeping your baby with you the whole time.
It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing that Equilibrium Fitness for Women will be closing permanently on October 31st, 2023. We have reached the end of our lease and have not been provided an option to extend our lease from the landlord. After 26 years in the Marigold Shopping Center, with Dave and Brittany having worked here 17 years and 18 years respectively, this will be our final month.
We want to say thank you to all of our customer service staff, personal trainers, and group exercise instructors over the years. Your energy, enthusiasm, and love for our community made Equilibrium Fitness for Women possible. We would like to extend a special thank you to our amazing Leisha whose tenure here goes back all 26 years.
And to all of our members past and present, thank you for allowing us to serve you and for supporting our small business. Each of you has made EQ into a beautiful community we are proud to be part of.
We have bittersweet and mixed emotions about the end of this chapter of our lives. We feel very fortunate to have been the stewards of this business. Within these walls we strove to create a safe, welcoming, and uplifting atmosphere where we grew so many wonderful relationships. This is where Brittany and I first met, fell in love, and raised our babies. This is where we shared so many major life moments with members and staff alike. From proms and graduations, to engagements and weddings, to births and retirements, we have gotten to experience many of life’s greatest moments with you.
However, despite all the wonderful times, the past three and a half years have been the most financially and emotionally challenging years of our lives. We have been navigating the pandemic closures and restrictions while carrying very expensive operating costs and ever-rising expenses. While we have great sadness to be moving on, we are excited to embark on new ventures to serve the fitness community here in San Luis Obispo.
Future plans
For the past two years we have searched extensively for real estate opportunities to scale and relocate EQ. Unfortunately, we never located the proper space that was financially feasible. But we are excited for the future because we have found several strategic partnerships that will allow us to move some segments of our business to share space with other small businesses.
Our personal training services will be moving to Fitness Edge at 795 Buckley Road. Dave and Leisha will be offering appointment-based personal and small group training in a wonderful studio.
Brittany will be launching her own business, Kismet Fitness at the Public Market, sharing the Nexus studio. Kismet Fitness will feature the programming Brittany’s followers have come to love, in classes that are made specifically for women and non-binary people. Lead by Brittany, this programming will be a whole-body fitness program that evolves class to class, utilizing weights, steps, balls, and bands to increase cardiovascular health, mobility, and strength. Prenatal and postpartum specific classes will be available as well. There are countless connections that have been made in Brittany’s classes, and we feel it’s kismet that each of these women have come together to support and strengthen themselves and each other. Brittany is thrilled to have found such a unique space in the Public Market with Nexus and can’t wait to continue cultivating our community.
While we will not be able to relocate all of our group exercise programming, we are actively working to help find new opportunities for some of the programs you love. Cardio Beat will be coming to Performance Athletics on Broad Street. Denise, with the support of Kathy and Katie, will keep you dancing and smiling in an exciting new space. Stay tuned for more details.
What will happen to my membership?
We hope you will stay will us through our final month to make the most of the facility and all of our classes. Not only will this help us complete our remaining financial obligations, such as payroll and rent, but we want to use the facility to its fullest while we still can. It is our intention to run our full schedule through lunch time of Halloween.
All memberships will be terminated as of October 31st, 2023.
Monthly Autopays: If your membership bills monthly, we will prorate any final membership payments billing after October 1st. For example, if your membership normally bills on the 10th of the month for $59.99, you will only be charged $40.63 for the 21 days from October 10th to the 31st.
Prepaid Memberships: If you have a prepaid membership, we will prorate and refund the remaining unused credit either directly to your credit card or by check, depending on how you purchased your membership. Expect these refunds to post in the last two weeks of October.
Trial memberships: If you are on a trial membership that will expire before October 31st but you would like to continue with us until the end of the month, we can offer a prorated standard monthly rate or punch card.
Equipment Sales
Virtually all of our Group Exercise class equipment will be making the move to the Public Market for use by Kismet Fitness, but we will be selling most other equipment including bikes, ellipticals, treadmills, weight machines, etc. If there are specific items you are interested in purchasing, please let us know and Dave can provide pricing. Purchased items will generally not be available for pick up until after October 31st. Delivery options may be available.
Thank you again for being part of our EQ family. We’ve poured our heart and soul into this business, and we look forward to the communities we’ve created here growing and thriving in new spaces.
With Love,
Dave and Brittany Pomfret
